Laura Casabé

Laura Casabé, born in Argentina in 1982 and a graduate in Image and Sound Design from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, is a filmmaker recognized for blending horror, fantasy, and political allegory in her work; she debuted with El hada buena – Una fábula peronista (2010), followed by the surreal thriller La valija de Benavidez (2016), and gained international acclaim with Los que vuelven (2019), a horror-fantasy set in 19th‑century Argentina, while her later projects include Álbum de Familia (2024) and La virgen de la tosquera (2025), which premiered at Sundance, establishing her as a leading voice in Latin American genre cinema.

Synopsis

In 2001, Argentina is experiencing economic problems and related protests. Three girls, Natalia, Mariela, and Josefina, are attracted to the young Tiago. However, Tiago is in a relationship with Silvia, who is older than those girls.The jealous Natalia, with the help of her grandmother, tries to cast a spell against Tiago and Silvia
