Suzannah Mirghani

Suzannah Mirghani is a Sudanese-Russian filmmaker, researcher, and writer based in Qatar. She studied media and museum studies at UCL Qatar. Known for shorts like Al-Sit (2020, Clermont-Ferrand winner) and Virtual Voice (2021, Tribeca), she has won multiple awards. Cotton Queen (2025), her debut feature, premiered at Venice Critics’ Week, continuing her focus on identity, tradition, and resilience

Synopsis

In a Sudanese cotton-farming village, Nafisa lives with her grandmother. The arrival of a businessman threatens their way of life, sparking a story of resilience, tradition, and cultural identity.
