Christian Petzold

Christian Petzold (b. 1960, Hilden) is a German filmmaker associated with the Berlin School movement. He studied at Freie Universität Berlin and the German Film and Television Academy. His early “Ghosts Trilogy” includes The State I Am In (2000), Ghosts (2005), and Yella (2007). Later films include Jerichow (2008), Barbara (2012, Silver Bear Berlin), Phoenix (2014), Transit (2018), Undine (2020), and Afire (2023). Mirrors No. 3 (2025) continues his exploration of allegory and intimacy

Synopsis

After a car crash, piano student Laura is taken in by Betty, who witnessed the accident. Living with Betty’s family brings comfort but also suspicion. Petzold crafts a ghostly allegory of trauma, intimacy, and trust.
