Akinola Davies Jr.

Akinola Davies Jr. is a British-Nigerian filmmaker, writer, and visual artist. Born in London and raised in Lagos, he studied at the New York Film Academy. He directed music videos for Gucci and Louis Vuitton before making shorts. His Lizard (2020) won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize and was BAFTA-nominated. My Father’s Shadow (2025), his debut feature, premiered at Cannes and won a Caméra d’Or special mention

Synopsis

Set during the 1993 Nigerian election crisis, two brothers reconnect with their estranged father in Lagos. Their journey through the city reveals political unrest, family bonds, and cultural identity.
