Ildikó Enyedi (b. 1955, Budapest) is a Hungarian filmmaker and screenwriter. She studied economics before turning to film at the Academy of Drama and Film in Budapest. Her debut My 20th Century (1989) won the Camera d’Or at Cannes. Later works include Magic Hunter (1994), Simon, the Magician (1999), On Body and Soul (2017, Berlinale Golden Bear, Oscar nominee), and The Story of My Wife (2021). Her latest is Silent Friend (2025). Enyedi is known for blending surrealism, philosophy, and emotional realism
Set in a medieval German botanical garden across three epochs, the film explores human attempts to connect with plants and nature. Through poetic imagery, Enyedi crafts a meditation on time, memory, and ecological intimacy.
