Emmanuel Finkiel (b. 1961, Boulogne-Billancourt) is a French director and actor. He worked as assistant director for 16 years before debuting with Voyages (1999), which won the Louis Delluc Prize and César Best First Feature. Other works include Nulle part, terre promise (2009, Prix Jean Vigo), A Decent Man (2016), and Memoir of War (2017, César nominations). Mariana’s Room (2025) adapts Aharon Appelfeld’s novel
Based on Aharon Appelfeld’s Blooms of Darkness, the film follows Hugo, a Jewish boy hidden in Mariana’s brothel during WWII. Their bond becomes a meditation on survival and intimacy.
