Youssef Chahine (1926–2008), Egyptian director known for blending melodrama with political critique. His filmography includes Alexandria… Why?, An Egyptian Story, The Sparrow, The Other, and Destiny. He is celebrated for pioneering Arab cinema internationally.
Synopsis
Set during a hunger strike in Egypt’s film industry, Yehia (played by Chahine himself) obsesses over Amr, a young actor, and Nadia, a woman he desires to work with. The film reflects Chahine’s autobiographical trilogy, exploring art, politics, and personal relationships.
